The Centre for Women’s Studies, Gandhigram Rural Institute - Deemed University, Gandhigram was established in Sep 2009 during the XI plan. Objectives of the Centre are to promote gender equality at all spheres of society through the activities of Teaching, Training, Research, Field Action, Outreach and Advocacy, Dissemination of Information, Clustering and Mentoring. The Centre offers M.Phil., Ph.D. in Women's Studies and Non-Major Elective courses. The Centre has conducted 203 training programmes, 248 awareness & day observations and carried out three sponsored research projects during the year 2010-16. The Centre also collaborates with other Universities, Colleges and offers orientation and refresher courses in Women’s Studies. The overall approach to Women's Studies in this Centre is multidisciplinary.

After completion of its assigned tasks successfully during XI plan, the Centre has been upgraded and entered the Second Phase during XII plan period from April 2016 onwards.
