The Rural Technology Centre was established as the Technical Wing of the GRI in the year 1988 with the major objectives of Developing Technologies for rural upliftment through innovative approaches and to offer Academic programmes. The Centre initially offered B.Sc. programmes in Rural Technology (1994-2005) and B.Sc. Sustainable Technology Management (2002-2005). From the year 2005-06, the centre has been offering an innovative technical progamme namely B.Tech in Civil Engineering (Habitat Development). The centre is actively involved in research in the areas of Cost-effective Building Technologies, Habitat Issues, Rural Housing and Models.
